What to Wear on Christmas Day – How to Create Your Perfect Outfit

five christmas day outfits FOr celebratING in

Are you thinking about what to wear on the 25th December? There are no set rules, it all depends where you’ll be, what you’ll be doing and who you’ll be with! Whether your perfect day involves lunch then collapsing on the sofa to watch Christmas Day TV, or a more formal, dressy festive event.

Whether you're lounging, partying or heading out walking, you need an outfit to feel good in and that fits with vibe of your day.

Here are my five Christmas Day looks -

1. all dressed-up

Lovedrobe Luxe Plus sequin smock dress from ASOS

If it’s going to be a dressy occasion and your family or friends will be pushing out the glamour boat, what could be more perfect than sequins, sparkles and velvet?

There aren't many days when you can stay dressed up all day long, but Christmas is definitely one of them. So, if you’ll be staying indoors make the most of it and bring on the glitz and glamour! Dial up the glam factor in a dress, with heels or embellished flats and an added sprinkling of bling.

If dresses aren’t your thing, go for a sequin or velvet blazer with a cami top, and wide leg or cropped tapered trousers for a chic look.

2. Luxe loungewear

Darcie Red Pyjamas from Nadine Merabi

Do you enjoy ultimate comfort and decadence on Christmas Day, but fancy something a little more glam than your fleece onesie? Go for a luxe loungewear look in pieces that will ensure you’re comfortable and cosy, without compromising on style.

Satin, feather trimmed or velour pyjamas feel glamorous and chic and can qualify for at-home day wear by adding some OTT earrings or a necklace. Embroidered, satin or soft suede slippers complete the look from head to toe!

3. indoor/outdoor style

If your day will involve a bracing walk or hike, snuggly knits and flattering A-line skirts or tactile cord trousers are the perfect recipe.

A comfortable combination that will look good for Christmas dinner and a day’s worth of celebrations and then pull on your warm coat and a pair of chunky boots when it’s time for the post-feast walk.

One of 2022’s biggest trends, the knitted dress is just as good worn with ballet flats indoors and then boots for a wintery walk.

4. relaxed glamour

If you want the comfort of your pj's but the look of something a bit more elevated than loungewear, opt for a satin skirt or trousers and a cosy knit.

This will feel right for a cosy day at home, but the satin element brings the outfit more into the party realm. If you want a bit more edge, add chunky boots and statement earrings.

If satin isn’t your thing, how about a sequin skirt? An oversized knit will tone down the sparkle factor and it’s a look that will work way beyond Christmas and New Year.

5. The seasonal knit

If you love the Christmas themed jumper with jeans for a dressed down, low key look, swap the novelty knit for a seasonal cardigan or tank tops this Christmas – a key trend for autumn/winter 2022.

A fairisle or intarsia knit that has an alpine feel is festive, but not gimmicky and can be worn for the rest of Winter. Later over a pie-crust collar blouse and paired with boyfriend or wide leg jeans for a relaxed but cool look.

Finally, think about sustainability here and don’t buy anything that will only be worn once. something to wear once. If you really want to make a statement in a one-off outfit, consider renting something from one of the many occasion wear rental websites instead of buying new. If you really want to make a purchase, choose pieces that will work for other occasions in the year and can be worn with other things in your wardrobe to create different outfits.
