The perfect day dress

After jeans, dresses are the thing that I get asked for most by my clients. Most women really want to have a couple of dresses in their wardrobe that they can pull out time after time knowing that they will instantly look good and feel confident. A dress is an outfit in one, so it’s a perfect solution for getting ready quickly in the morning.

So what length, style or shape should you go for?

If you have a bust and hips and a defined waist (hourglass), then a dress that shows off your shape is really flattering. Look for a ‘V’ or scoop neck, and a belt or fitted waist. A top half that fits the body closely will highlight your figure without adding bulk.

For a slimmish upper body and wider hips and bottom, look for dresses with a ‘V’ neck detail on the bust or puff sleeves which will draw attention upwards and balance your figure. A full or ‘A’ line shape skirt is really flattering.

If your figure is more straight up and down, go for a dress which creates a feminine shape. Prints, details and draping will add contours, and a waisted dress creates definition around the middle to break up the ‘rectangle’.

When you have a tummy and don’t have a defined waist, a tunic or ‘A’ line shape dress is super flattering. Go for above knee or on the knee length if you like your legs. Low or ‘V’ neckline collars help to narrow the shoulders and chest.
