Fashion After Lockdown
Predictions are that we won’t be buying clothes in the way we used to before the pandemic.
We will have less disposable income for clothes, and will more conscious about what we do buy. Also, more of us will buy second-hand, or direct from small businesses who manufacture responsibly. Seasonal trends will be less important in the future, as designers focus more on styles that can be bought and worn all year round.
Manufacturers have cut their output in response to cancelled orders, shutting of stores, and the cancellation of the designer’s summer shows. Clothing is currently massively over-produced as it’s cheaper to make at high volume, which has led to seasonal ranges appearing earlier and earlier in store and then being discounted mid-season. There are now calls for clothing to be sold at full price for longer, with sales at the end of the season, as things used to be.
Note though, the ‘athleisure’ will continue to grow as we’ve become too comfortable working from home in our sweat shirts and pants to go back!
